ZAKHO HOSTS KURDISH FOOD DAY

Students in Grade 4 at Zakho International School, a SABIS^® PPP school in Kurdistan, enjoyed a traditional Kurdish meal together organized by the SABIS Student Life Organization^®(SLO^®) on January 12, 2019.

Students were asked by the SLO^® to bring in traditional Kurdish food they prepared with their parents to school. Once at school, the students were given the opportunity to present their food and hand out tasters of the food to teachers and students. Once the presentations were done, students all sat together, sharing their food, and enjoying a meal with their classmates. The meal was followed by music and dancing for everyone to participate and enjoy.

The purpose of this activity was for students to further explore their culture through traditional foods that exist in it and in their community. It was also a nice for students to learn how to prepare traditional foods and have these recipes passed down from their parents. “I was so happy that the food I brought in was enjoyed by my teachers and friends who said that it was very delicious!” said a student.
