Zakho Students Celebrate Kurdish Flag Day
Zakho International School, a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, held a school-wide celebration in honor of Kurdish Flag Day on December 16, 2017.
The activity took place throughout the day and the different grade levels celebrated in their own way. The KG 1 students were given small Kurdish flags during their lunch break to carry as they celebrated and danced to Kurdish music. Students in KG 2 to Grade 6 celebrated during 8th period. They gathered in the cafeteria to hear speeches about honoring and respecting the Kurdish flag and what it represented. Afterwards they listened to Kurdish music, danced, and took many photos.
Kurdish Flag Day is an important day in Kurdistan and celebrating it at school helps instill a sense of pride and respect in the students towards their flag, culture, and identity. “It is very good and meaningful to teach students about their flag and to instill respect for the flag. This day means a lot for Kurdish culture and identity,” said a student.
