ZAKHO STUDENTS VISIT ANCIENT REMAINS AT AMEDI

On November 10, 2018, students in grades 6 and 7 at Zakho International School, a SABIS® PPP school in Kurdistan, went on a day trip to see the ancient remains at Amedi.

Along with teachers and prefects, students traveled by school bus to the historical town of Amedi. Once there, they had the opportunity to learn about the various ancient remains such as, The Amedi Gate, The Great Mosque, and other local history sites. After spending time exploring, the students also took some time to experience the local culture and heritage of the people living in and around the city.

The purpose of this activity was to give students a glimpse into their history and the history of their ancestors. Visiting museums is a very important part of education as it gives students the opportunity to see the things they read about in books, and opens their minds to how life changes over time. “We wish we have more trips like this in the future because it was very interesting,” said a student.
