Students and Staff Celebrate Flag Day 2015-2016

Students and staff at Zakho International School, a SABIS® PPP school, celebrated Flag Day on December 17, 2015.

Held during lunch break, the celebration brought together students from KG1 to Grade 5 and the administrative staff. The school, in cooperation with the art department, organized an activity which had the Kindergarten students creating a large Kurdish flag by using their hands and fingers to paint. These flags were then displayed at the school’s entrance.

At the event, the national anthem played and then the flag was raised, which was followed by the director’s speech. Afterwards the students and staff had the chance to perform the traditional Kurdish dance while the teachers played live music. Everybody waved flags and sang songs.

The activity took place to celebrate Flag Day, as well as remind the students of how important it is to raise the Kurdish flag, and to understand the meaning and representation of each of its colors. This year Flag Day was different, there was team spirit being shared. The interaction between the staff and the students was wonderful. We felt proud of our school and its team efforts,” the teachers said.
